We’re pleased to participate in Basel Social Club 2026: Office, on view June 14–20 in Basel. This year’s edition occupies a vacant office building near Basel SBB, activating its floors through exhibitions, performances, music, gastronomy, and informal encounters.
What does the office want from us now? Not our presence, that has been automated away. Not our attention, that was gamified into compliance. What remains is something stranger: the performance of labour without its substance, the interface without the human on the other side.
OOO (Out of Office) presented by Nguyen Wahed proposes works by Addie Wagenknecht and Andreas Gysin who examine the architectures, and instruments of contemporary work. They find in the office not merely a setting but a paradigm, one that has shaped how we move through space, apportion attention, and understand ourselves as productive subjects. Their works ask: what happens when that paradigm persists beyond its own obsolescence? Together they construct an office that no longer requires you, and wonders if it ever did.
