9 years after her first artistic engagement with Bitcoin, Sarah Meyohas returns with a series of 9 analog holograms. An image of each hologram is inscribed as an ordinal onto block 9 sats. Only the initial collector of that ordinal will receive the physical hologram. This is a piece of glass. It is not plugged in. The image that appears is not projected. There is an emulsion of silver halide particles on the glass, so when light illuminates the work at the correct angle, it recreates a light wave. To make this, the scene was created physically, featuring a 3D-printed Bitcoin. Then — a glass plate was placed above the set-up and exposed to laser light, at which point the chemical emulsion recorded the resulting interference pattern.
"I felt that holography — which is hyper-physical yet completely virtual — was a perfect way to embody Bitcoin. I was very inspired by Bitcoin in 2014. It was a radically creative act. The fact that it wasn’t the effort of a startup or a government, but the creation of an anonymous individual, and then a community, to create its own system of value — this was deeply inspiring to me as a young artist. I’m thrilled that these holograms can now be inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain." — Sarah Meyohas
